What cookies are all about, and how to set your browser to accept them.

Cookies are pieces of information generated by a Web server and stored in the user's computer, ready for future access. Cookies are embedded in the HTML information flowing back and forth between the user's computer and the servers.

Boatpokers Email Forum For SAMS members The first batch of cookies were originally cooked up as simple mechanism to help make it easier for users to access their favorite Web sites without having to go through a lengthy process of identifying themselves every time they visit. For instance, upon your first visit to a given site, you may be asked to reveal your name and perhaps even some personal or financial information required to gain access to that site in the future. The site will then place a cookie containing this information on your system and when you return it will request information based on the cookie to determine who you are and whether you have authorization to access the site.

The Email software that the Boatpokers Email forum uses utilizes cookies to enable subscribers to retrieve data from the Archives and to do searches of the Archives without having to re-enter their email address and password with each such request. If it wasn't for cookies not only would you have to enter your email address and password when you first accessed the archives, but again and again every time you made a request for data.

Boatpokers cookies expire automatically when you exit your browser. They do not store information for any other purpose, nor are they saved for your next visit.

How To Turn On Your Cookies
(Hey, sweetie... nice chocolate chips you've got there!)

If your browser is Mozilla FireFox, on the grey line near the top of the screen click "Tools", then "Options" then "Privacy", and in the "Cookies" box make sure "Accept cookies from sites" is checked off.

If your browser is Netscape, on the gray line near the top of the screen, click on "Edit", then on "Preferences" in the drop down menu. In the preferences window that appears, click on "Advanced". You will see the cookie controls in the lower right section of the window. Click on "Accept All Cookies".

If your browser is Microsoft's "Internet Explorer" (this comes with Windows) on the gray line near the top click on "Tools", then "Internet Options", then on "Privacy", then on "Advanced". Make sure "Override automatic Cookies Handling" is checked, then check both "Accept" options below.

If you are using some other browser or can't figure out what a browser is, call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and get them to help you. Or go out into the street and grab the first 12 year old kid you see and give him 10 bucks to do it for you.
